Will this cure my diseases?
Skin diseases, like most others, do not have a single cause but are rather the expression of a complex mechanism of internal and external factors. So, the sensible answer is “no”. But a healthy sleeping environment prevents further strain and helps your body while it recovers.
I hate bed mites
So do we. But bed mites love your polyester pillow cover. One third of the weight of a five-year-old pillow can be dead mites and their poop. Good thing that Aizome Bedding is naturally antibacterial.
Is this safe for children?
Yes. We work along international guidelines to qualify our products to be safe for toddlers and infants.
Are conventional textiles really as dangerous to your health as you claim?
Focus has been put on the release of hazardous chemicals into the environment and there is today a well-known environmental problem caused by the textile industry. However, substances remaining in finished textile products, in daily close contact with the body, have been neglected as a potential risk to human health. The hazards posed by such substances are primarily skin sensitization and irritation, but also reproduction toxicity, and proved or suspected carcinogenicity.

How does Aizome Bedding feel?

Is your product certified?
Since we are in what is called “concept stage” we do not have a certification as of now. However, we use GOTS-certified organic cotton, we produce in a facility which is OEKO-TEX certified and our final products are inspected by a large Japanese textile institute called QTEC to meet the highest textile standards.

Where do you ship from?
We ship from Yantai China, where the bed sets are being tailored in a facility we manage.
Is your bedding made entirely in Japan?
No, we also produce in China under controlled conditions. Rest assured that every stage of our production meets the highest quality standards. The quality management, review process, and safety inspections are all managed or done in Japan.
If I use another product that is OEKO-TEX 100, doesn’t it have the same benefits?
No. This means that the product was cleaned and checked for 100 known toxic chemicals. Aizome Bedding, however, has never even been in touch with such toxins and nothing had to be washed out. This saves tons of water and lets you sleep even better.
How long do these sheets last?
Potentially forever. Some of the oldest surviving fabrics are dyed with natural indigo. We have refrained from using any wear-and-tear parts like zippers, buttons or rubber bands. These might be the last sheets you’ll ever need.
How should I take care of my Aizome Bedding sheets?
To maintain the soft and comfortable natural feeling, we recommend following these care instructions: do not bleach, do not tumble dry, lay flat to dry, iron with low heat, and wash at up to 60°C.
Why do I have to wait until March?
We got funded with to successful crowdfunding campaigns and will produce and deliver to our backers first.
Will the color fade?
The fabric is tested here in Tokyo in every category. It is ranked within the highest level of color fastness. Direct sunlight over a long period of time may lead to a slight change in color in some cases.We also conducted a 100 times wash test in a standard washing machine. No color change whatsoever was noticeable. Have a look:
Can I dry clean Aizome Bedding?
Yes. The color will not be affected.
Does the natural dye have a smell?
When the bed sheets are wet, for example when you take them out of the washing machine, you notice a flowery scent. This is the smell of natural indigo.
How did you achieve such colorfastness?
The basic process is traditional: We use only cotton, indigo and water. We enhance this with a novel sonic wave technology. Sonic energy is sound waves with frequencies above 20,000 oscillations per second. In liquid, these high-frequency waves cause the formation of microscopic bubbles. Collapsing bubbles generate tiny but powerful shock waves which results in high-velocity microjets directed towards the solid surface of the yarn. These microjets can give rise to intra-yarn flow, increase in the rate of the mass transfer between the intra-yarn and inter-yarn pores. The result is highly colorfast textiles made without any chemicals.
What is the difference between ‘indigo’ and ‘natural indigo’?
Natural indigo is what humans used until the invention of chemical indigo (also known as synthetic indigo) by Adolf von Baeyer in the 1880s. Chemical indigo is by now used almost exclusively. The name ‘indigo’ is now used for the color, not the plant. As far as we know, no other company produces natural indigo products on a large scale.
Is this indigo the same as in my jeans?
If your jeans were made before the 1880s, then yes. If not, chances are high that your jeans are dyed with synthetic indigo, also called aniline, which in its pure form is highly toxic. Today natural dyes have almost disappeared from the market.
